Grey vs. Bordeaux: Which mayfair Colour Is Right for You?
By Sami · October 2026
“I couldnt decide between grey and red for so long.” That's from Sophie's review, and I really get it.
All four are the same cardigan. Same fit, same knitted-in bandana. But they don't feel the same on at all.
[Sami: one or two sentences on which colour you wear most yourself and why. Delete this line if you'd rather not.]
Look in your wardrobe first
Seriously, that tells you more than any pic. Whatever you wear most decides it:
Light gray
The easy one. Light grey with a black and cream pattern.
In the reviews this is the colour people keep calling “goes with everything”, and looking at the pics they're not wrong. Light jeans, dark jeans, cream trousers, a white tank. It doesn't really care what you put with it. If you want something you'll grab four days a week without thinking, this is it.
“…Finally ordered grey and I'm so glad. It goes with literally everything and I love that vintage look.”

Dark gray
Same idea, more contrast. The base is charcoal, so the cream bandana stands out a lot more than on light gray. If light gray feels a bit too soft for you, go for this one.
“The grey colour is sooo nice. Got compliments the first day I wore it.”
Maja N. · Denmark · dark gray
Black - bordeaux
Black base, cream pattern and little bits of deep red. It's the darkest one, and the obvious pick for going out.
If your wardrobe is mostly black anyway, don't overthink it. Black flares or grey tailored trousers, and the red in the pattern takes care of the rest.
“Got the black bordeauxxx and I think its perfect for autumn. Makes a simple black outfit look so much better.”
Hannah V. · black - bordeaux
Bordeaux
The loud one. Deep red base with a cream and black pattern.
You don't really style around this one, it pretty much is the outfit. White or cream underneath, maybe some boots, done. If you mostly wear neutrals and you've been wanting one piece with actual colour in it, I'd go bordeaux.
Freja wasn't sure it would look as good as in the pics:
“Wasnt sure if the quality would match the pictures but wow. Feels really nice and the details are beautiful. Looks way more expensive than I expected.”
Freja L. · Sweden · bordeaux
Still stuck?
Then go by this: grey if you want something you'll wear on a random Tuesday without thinking about it. Bordeaux or black - bordeaux if you want people to ask where it's from.
Or you get two. Ella's already planning it:
“…Looks just like the photos and the fit is perfect. Already planning to get another colour.”
